Common Website Mistakes You Could Be Doing And Need To Stop

Business Tips, Design Tips, Website Tips

It’s no secret that the internet has changed how we do business. It’s also no secret that there are a lot of mistakes small businesses could be doing online and they don’t even know it!  The truth is, many people think they’re doing everything right when in reality, they could be making some common website mistakes that are costing them money – or worse yet, preventing them from getting any customers at all. This blog post will go over a few of the most common website mistakes you might not know about:

1. Mobile unfriendliness

One website mistake that you should avoid is not being mobile-friendly. When designing a website, it’s important to consider how the content will be viewed on various devices – especially smartphones and tablets. Today people spend most of their time online browsing through social media or shopping sites from these handheld gadgets so if your design isn’t responsive to all screens then users will have trouble navigating around your page which can really affect sales for businesses as well as negatively impact SEO efforts because Google ranks websites higher in its search engine results pages when they are optimized by “mobile friendliness.”

2. No favicon

A favicon is an essential element of any website and should not be left out. The icon, which traditionally features a company logo or distinctive design, will appear next to the URL in your browser’s address bar when you bookmark the site for easy identification later on. A small but important detail that can easily get overlooked is having no favicon.

3. Unclear navigation

Make your visitors’ lives easier by being crystal-clear about where they can find what they’re looking for. Website navigation is the key to getting your customers from point A to point B. If you don’t do it well, they may get lost and never come back! Having a clear navigation will help them find what they need quickly without confusion or frustration so you retain loyal clients who keep coming back again and again.

4. No brand identity

If you want to make sure your website is as memorable and recognizable as possible, don’t create a design that doesn’t speak for itself. You should consider the message of your business or organization in order to give off an identity when people first visit it. A brand should be recognizable at first glance. The way it looks, feels and sounds to the customer is what helps them make a purchase decision.

5. The website is outdated

Outdated websites can appear in broken functionalities and design. If it looks outdated and not well-maintained, this could make potential customers think that you don’t care about their opinions or if they will be happy with what they see on your site. Not only the technical aspects of the website, but also whether your website is still delivering your brand messaging and values correctly, because oftentimes, as the business grows, it experiences changes in many aspects and you want your website to be consistent and coherent with your brand’s value.

6. Using unclear fonts

One of the most frustrating things about browsing through a website is being unable to read the font because it’s too small or too artistic that makes it unreadable. Not only does this frustrate visitors and discourage them from reading anything on your page but also will lead them away in search of another more legible option in order to find what they’re looking for elsewhere.

7. Focusing too much on yourself instead of the customers

In the world of business, it is easy to get caught up in your own head and forget about what you are really doing for other people. If you want a successful website/business then pay attention to how others feel when they visit or use something. A good web designer don’t only create good looking interfaces but also research and study the business owner’s target audience, so that the website has a good user experience and structured strategically to help converting browsers into buyers.

These mistakes can be avoided especially if you’re assisted with a professional who knows what she/ he’s doing. Need more consultation? Schedule a free consult call HERE.
